While it still feels a long way off, the 2025 Formula 1 season is quickly approaching. In just six weeks, fans will be sitting back and getting ready for the cars to begin racing around Albert Park Circuit in Australia. Until then, fans have been kept busy with many events and announcements.

The Autosport awards occurred earlier this week. McLaren fans were especially pleased by the results of this event since many awards were won by the team members or the car. Andrea Stella, the Team Principal of McLaren, won Person of the Year at the event. This was most likely due to his performance in leading McLaren to their first Constructors Championship in many years.

While it may seem weird that an inanimate object can win awards, the McLaren MCL38 car won International Competition Car of the Year for its performance in the Constructors Championship with Lando Norris (McLaren) and Oscar Piastri (McLaren). Speaking of Norris, he also won British Competition Driver of the Year.

Max Verstappen (Red Bull) also had his fair share of wins at the Autosports Awards. Moment of the Year was won by his “Masterclass in Brazil”.

When watching this masterclass live, no Formula 1 fan can dispute that this moment deserved the award. Verstappen started near the back of the grid and made his way up to first place while it was pouring around the track.

Verstappen also won International Racing Driver of the Year, which was much deserved after he fought to keep his World Champion title.

Overall, having events like the Autosport awards are welcome distractions while waiting for the Australian Grand Prix.
