The season itself isn’t dark and dreary, as the weather’s still hitting into the 70s each day, but there’s been a subtle change in wardrobe colors the past two weeks.

Black, a color for any season or any event, is the perfect color to help you transition into the approaching colder months. It’s a neutral base color that left alone makes a statement of its own, but paired with accessories proves a lot of fun. As spotted around campus, many Messiah students are taking to this preferred color of choice.

Next in line to a girl’s gal pal, BFF, confidant, soul mate, whichever you prefer to call it, resides any girls go to fashion piece – the black dress. Junior Grace Carvalho shows how easily a single-tone dress can really hit the beat. With a minimalistic approach to accessories in the form of a long-chain pendant necklace, the dress does all the work for you. Pairing the outfit with black Birkenstocks helps to keep the look class-ready, but with a change in shoes the dress could easily go from day to night.

In a black on black on black approach, Sophomore Kelly Shea demonstrates how nothing pairs better with black than black. Each component of Shea’s outfit can easily work with a multitude of other fashion pieces within your closet, making them a versatile part of the mix.

With a similar outfit style to Carvalho’s, junior Rachel Peters demonstrates how you can choose to wear black in a more subtle manner. Stripes work to balance out the black you might be wishing to wear more neutrally. As the weather dips colder though, Peters could easily add a black cardigan with the dress to make it a more comfortable outfit choice for chillier morning weather.

If you haven’t put two and two together yet, black’s a must have for anyone’s wardrobe. Let’s get black to the basics.
