It doesn’t matter if this is your first year or your last, there are some feelings that will never change during the first month back at school.

The struggle of getting to class on time.

10 minutes between class doesn’t sound bad until you realize you have to run from the High Center to the fourth floor of Jordan.

Waiting till the last minute to get the textbook.

It’s scary to spend that much money on stacks of paper, so you delay it until your classmates are tired of lending you theirs.

Regretting 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. classes

No matter how you look at it, it’s brutal to drag yourself out of bed that early in the morning to sit in a room with 30 dazed and confused students.

The joy of Warm Cookie Day.

Seeing Lottie’s freshly baked cookies waiting for you is the purest form of joy out there.

Feeling like everyone else knows what they’re doing.

Believe me, no one has their life together. There’s always someone who ate ice cream for dinner or just binged the first season of Stranger Things last night instead of doing homework.

Remembering your ID for chapel credits.

Always double-check for your ID or you’ll end up scrambling for credits at the end of the semester and questioning your spirituality.

New semester = new you.

“New you” works until you realize there was nothing wrong with being “old you”.

Seeing old friends and making new ones.

Your squad is the best squad out there, but it doesn’t hurt to add someone new.

Hoping you’ll meet a “special someone”.

Unless you have an S.O., you’re probably going to keep an eye out for that cutie in class. Don’t be afraid, just say hi. Or, a shout out on Messiah College Crushes never hurt anyone.

Excitement for independence, but longing for Mom’s food.

Living on your own is great until you have a 2:00 a.m. craving for Mom’s lasagna. Don’t worry, you’ll be stuffing your face with home cooked meals when fall break finally rolls around.
