We have reached the end of our first full week of the semester. I don’t know about you, but I would have loved another mid-week snow day. On top of all the school work, the plethora of events is back.
Thursday, February 8 – Sunday, February 11 – The Boy Friend
The Department of Theater and Dance put on The Boy Friend this week. The musical is a spoof of 1920s romantic comedies. It is centered around character Polly Browne who, despite her father’s protesting, wants a boyfriend. The spoof is riddled with catchy songs and humorous clichés. Don’t worry if you missed it; there will be shows this upcoming weekend.
Saturday, February 10 – White-Out Basketball Game
The men and women’s basketball teams played in the annual white-out game this Saturday against Albright College. The men’s team fell to Albright, but the women’s team achieved a win over the Lions. The women had a shaky start, but they were able to hold on for a 65-57 victory.
Wednesday, February 14 – Wrestling
The Messiah wrestling team traveled to Westminster, Maryland. on Wednesday for a match against McDaniel College. The Falcons demolished their opponents with a 25-9 victory. This win gave head coach Bryan Brunk his 200th career victory.
Beyond Messiah
The world is coming together as it does every four years for the Winter Olympics. The games began over the weekend in PyeongChang, South Korea. The U.S. has won eight medals so far this Olympics, five of which have been gold.
A horrific school shooting occurred on Wednesday in Parkland, Florida. Officials say, “at least 17 people were killed and 14 were injured and taken to local hospitals” (usatoday.com). Police identified Nikolas Cruz, 19, as the gunman. He was formerly a student who was expelled.
