This afternoon, the Department of Safety saw a raccoon around the fitness trail that showed signs of rabies. Soon after, a licensed wildlife professional arrived and euthanized the animal.
It is possible the raccoon may have encountered other wildlife in the area of campus. The Department of Safety asks that if you see skunks, raccoons, cats, groundhogs or foxes exhibiting odd behaviors during the daylight hours to please contact them immediately. You can call Dispatch Services at 717-691-6005, or extension 6005 from an on-campus phone. Be aware of the location, type of animal and behaviors it is exhibiting to share with the Department of Safety. They will then move forward with the appropriate response and communicate to the rest of campus if necessary.
