Homecoming proved to be a good weekend for most of the Messiah sports teams. Here’s what you may have missed:
Messiah Athletics announced the 2019 class for the Falcons’ Hall of Honor. The five new members include Amy Reed (‘08, Women’s Track and Field), Kai Kasiguran (‘08, Men’s Soccer), Jono Linebaugh (‘05, Men’s Lacrosse), Jamie Noble (‘85, Women’s Basketball), and former Head Coach for the Women’s Volleyball team, Joan Chamberlin.
Men’s Soccer defeated Lycoming early in the week by a score of 2-0. Nick West scored a brace and goalkeeper Connor Bell recorded three saves.
The team also downed Widener 5-0 during Saturday’s Homecoming game. Jonathan Groothoff, Micah Fitz, Justin Brautigam, Nick West and Briton Haseltine scored for the Falcons.
Field Hockey took a quick road trip to Lebanon Valley College beating the Dutchmen 2-1 in overtime. Kristen Levesque gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the game before the Dutchmen tied the game in the second half. Megan Wetzel scored the golden goal in overtime.
The women shutout the Arcadia Knights on Saturday. Hannah Palm, Taylor Wiederrecht, Kristen Levesque and Casie Stief assisted in the 4-0 victory.
Women’s Soccer scored seven goals in a dominating win over Lycoming Tuesday. Brooke Firestone (2), Jessie Fisher, Ashley Sauder, Julia Kyne and Sunny Gelnovatch scored in the shutout victory.
The number two team in the Nation defeated Widener 6-0 over the weekend. Sunny Gelnovatch and Megan Mansfield each had a brace, while Jessie Fisher and Ellie Lengacher added goals as well.
Women’s Cross Country participated in the Lebanon Valley Last Chance Meet over the weekend. The team finished in 4th place out of eight teams. Brieanna Hess led the Falcons with a time of 24:11.
Men’s Cross Country also participated in the Last Chance Meet finishing in third place. Silas Buckwalter led the team with a time of 26:42.1 as he crossed the line in 7th place overall.
Women’s Tennis wrapped up their fall season at the MAC Championships this weekend. Hannah Murray advanced to the No.7 singles championship match but fell to Wilkes’ Alex Cieri in two sets. Kaitlyn Russell, Emily Wichert and Rebekah Adams all reached the semifinals but did not advance.
