Tuesday is National Pancake Day 2019. The nationwide celebration of America’s favorite (or, arguably second favorite) breakfast food is marked by IHOP’s offering of free pancakes to all customers.
While the debate between waffles and pancakes will likely rage on like the war between pineapple and non-pineapple pizza eaters, it’s good to set aside these petty arguments and realize that this is actually a way of raising money for valuable organizations such as Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
At Messiah, generally, the only association we have with pancakes is the arrival of finals and subsequent stress-eating of breakfast foods late at night (along with lines wrapped around Eisenhower). Of course, waffles are also an option if you can settle for that, but that’s no way to celebrate National Pancake Day, of course.
There’s also the option of making use of the kitchen in your dorm or apartment to make your own, as the smell will likely draw in others who live near you. Even if you don’t know them, it could be a great way of meeting new friends and sharing tasty (and cheap!) food.
And for anyone out there who prefers waffles, mark your calendars for National Waffle Day on August 24.
