(Mechanicsburg, P.a) – Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year to be thankful for the many things in life such as family, friends and even food. I am definitely thankful for my family because the spread on the dinner table during Thanksgiving is always incredible.

I’m talking about crispy skinned turkey, creamy mashed potatoes, homemade stuffing, green beans (notice how I didn’t say green bean casserole), fluffy bread rolls and savory gravy to smother on everything.

Just like the lyrics from “The Sound of Music,” Thanksgiving dishes are “a few of my favorite things.” But what shouldn’t be on the table?

I enjoy all the other dishes such as stuffing, green beans, and rolls, but cranberry sauce has got to go. I know that it is a mainstay for everyone, but I feel that it provides no added experience. Firstly, the sauce is always a wacky texture which I find to be grainy and gelatinous. Secondly, cranberry sauce is either too sweet or too tart which is tough to balance because of the tangy flavor. These are two reasons why cranberry sauce is below average on the Thanksgiving food tier list.

Another hot take I have is that pumpkin pie is simply overrated. I am personally not a huge fan of pumpkin pie because it doesn’t compare to the greatness of other pies. Cherry pie, pecan pie, peanut butter pie and chocolate chip walnut pie are all better than pumpkin pie, and it’s not even close. You’re basically eating pureed pumpkins which is nasty when you think about it.

Overall, Thanksgiving food is wonderful, but there are some dishes that shouldn’t be on the table like cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and don’t let me forget candied yams. That is a whole can of worms in itself because those are just horrible. Yams should not be turned into a dessert. It doesn’t work.

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and I look forward to hearing some of your hot takes as to what shouldn’t be on the table.
