At approximately 5:00 p.m. last evening, a power outage occurred on campus forcing college operations to temporarily close Eisenhower Campus Center and Sollenberger Sports Center until the power could be restored.
According to Director of Facility Services Brad Markley, “We had a failure of the CHP plant that resulted in the turbines going down and the PPL main breaker not properly resetting. This caused the power failure in the campus center.”
After working with PPL, Messiah’s utility provider, as well as Efinity, who services the campus turbines, facility services were able to troubleshoot the source of the power outage.
“We discovered that there was a computer communication failure that shut the systems off on ‘safety’,” says Markley. “The situation was corrected and the power was restored at a little before 9:00 p.m.”
