We have finally entered the five blissful days between J-Term and the beginning of spring semester. These few days are the most stress-free days we will get before spring break in March. Here are a few things you may have missed during the last days of J-Term:
Saturday, January 27 – Men’s Volleyball
The men’s volleyball team played their first-ever NCAA game on Saturday against Lancaster Bible College. Falcon fans filled Jordan Court to cheer on the men. The team fell 3-1, but were able to pull off a win on Wednesday against Penn State-Altoona.
Saturday, January 27 – Falcon Feud
On Saturday night, SAB and the Pulse hosted the annual Falcon Feud competition in The Union. The stakes were high with $250 worth of Amazon gift cards on the line for the winning team. Eight teams of five competed for the coveted prize. In the end, The Voyagers took home the prize, with each member receiving a $50 Amazon gift card.
Tuesday, January 30 – Announcement of the Kim S. Phipps Admissions and Welcome Center
The Messiah College Board of Trustees announced on Tuesday that construction will begin for a new admissions and welcome center, and who should they name it after other than our wonderful president, Kim S. Phipps. The center will be used as a space to welcome prospective students and their families. There’s no word yet on exactly when the project will be starting, but it is a priority.
Beyond Messiah
Cape Town, South Africa is making headlines this week as officials announce the town will likely run out of water by April 12, which is being called “Day Zero”. The crisis is due to factors such as a terrible drought and a rapidly growing population. Citizens are now forced to use just fifty liters a day, that’s just over 13 gallons per person.
