On Saturday, Sept. 13, the Caribbean Student Association (CSA) hosted an evening kickback in the backyard of the Rafiki House. Caribbean inspired music played as students of various backgrounds gathered together to play games, eat food, and fellowship with one another.

The night began with a quick game to learn one another’s names. Afterward, chicken and beef empanadas were served, along with plantains and fruit punches. During this time, people ate and talked with one another. Next, there was a game of musical chairs, a finish-the-lyrics game with a karaoke machine, and finally, a rap battle.

CSA’s Secretary, Leilani Cabrol, said the goal of this kickback was “to introduce a little bit of Caribbean culture through food and music.” Additionally, she said it was important “to have a lot of freshmen come so that they can meet people that are a part of the Multicultural Council Clubs.”

CSA plans on hosting other similar events throughout the school year and encourages all students to come. They also invite students to show up to their members meetings that are held every other Wednesday at 4 p.m. These meetings are designated times for CSA to highlight Caribbean culture through presentations and games for anyone that is interested in learning.
